Long-Term Commitment at Milton Keynes

Red Bull Racing has secured the future of team principal and chief executive Laurent Mekies with a five-year contract extension running until 2031. Mekies, who transitioned from sister team Racing Bulls in July 2025 following the departure of longtime boss Christian Horner, has solidified his standing after steering the squad through a critical transitional era.

The announcement arrives immediately after a competitive resurgence on track. Red Bull captured their first two victories of the season across consecutive race weekends in Malaysia and Singapore, both delivered by Max Verstappen. The surge has brought Red Bull to fourth in the Constructors' Championship, narrowing the deficit to third-placed McLaren to just seven points during their debut campaign as an independent engine manufacturer.

Leadership and Technical Continuity

The extension solidifies Red Bull's long-term operational structure. Max Verstappen previously committed his future to the team through 2030 with a renewal in August, while rookie Isack Hadjar earned a contract extension running through 2027.

In a joint statement, Red Bull shareholders Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mark Mateschitz highlighted Mekies' impact during a pivotal phase for the organization:

"Laurent has played a crucial role in guiding the team through an important period of transition while maintaining the competitive spirit and the Red Bull principles that define us. This extension reflects our confidence in his leadership and our shared belief in the long term vision of the team."

Mekies credited the organization's technical foundation, specifically pointing to technical director Pierre Wache and powertrain chief Ben Hodgkinson as central pillars for future campaigns. "Together, with Pierre Wache's and Ben Hodgkinson's teams playing a central role in shaping our future, we have a strong platform for the years ahead, and we genuinely believe this is only the beginning," Mekies stated.

Red Bull corporate projects and investments CEO Oliver Mintzlaff also endorsed the continuity, noting that Mekies blends technical pedigree from past tenures at Ferrari and the FIA with decisive strategic management.

What Comes Next

Formula 1 now prepares for an upcoming Americas triple-header, starting with the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin on October 23-25. Red Bull enters the weekend targeting McLaren in the constructors' standings as they aim to maintain their late-season winning momentum.
