Shapovalov edges Norrie in three-set semi-final
Defending champion Denis Shapovalov secured his place in the Los Cabos Open final after a hard-fought victory over Cameron Norrie in the early hours of Saturday morning. The Canadian triumphed 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in a match that lasted two hours and 40 minutes.
The match began with Shapovalov establishing an early advantage, breaking Norrie in the opening service game to take a 2-0 lead before closing out the first set. Norrie, the British No 2, responded in the second set. Despite being broken to love at one stage, he rallied to level the match, eventually converting his second set point at 6-5 with a precise forehand volley that clipped the line.
In the deciding set, Shapovalov regained his composure. His serving proved the difference-maker, allowing him to neutralize Norrie’s defensive baseline game. "Great serving from me today and I knew I needed it against a guy like Cam," Shapovalov said after the match. "He doesn't give you many free points so I knew I had to try and hit my serves and hit tricky spots for him."

With this victory, Shapovalov advances to the final to face Arthur Gea. The Frenchman earned his spot by defeating Coleman Wong 7-6(7), 6-3. For Norrie, the defeat marks the end of a promising run in Mexico, though his recent competitive struggles persist as he seeks to regain his form on the ATP Tour.
The court surface bore the map of the encounter: a dense constellation of scuff marks near the baseline where Norrie’s desperate lunges had ground the dust into his shirt, contrasted against the clean, rhythmic streaks of clay clinging to Shapovalov’s sleeves—a silent testament to a match won on the margins of service velocity.
