Liverpool Target Ibrahim Mbaye to Bolster Attacking Options
Liverpool have initiated formal inquiries regarding the availability of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winger Ibrahim Mbaye. The 18-year-old, who operates primarily on the right flank, has emerged as a primary target as the club seeks to restructure its attacking depth following the departure of Mohamed Salah.
Strategic Context and Recruitment Priorities
Under new manager Andoni Iraola, Liverpool have identified the wide attacking positions as a critical area for investment. The club’s recruitment strategy aims to secure five wingers by the close of the transfer window, with a specific mandate to include a high-potential younger player for long-term development. Mbaye, a Senegal international who debuted for PSG at age 16 in August 2024, fits the profile of this developmental objective.
The Financial Landscape of PSG Targets
While Liverpool have also expressed interest in Mbaye’s teammate, Bradley Barcola, the two pursuits are currently being treated as independent operations. The feasibility of a move for Barcola remains constrained by PSG’s £145m valuation, a figure that complicates the club's broader squad-building budget. Consequently, Liverpool are evaluating a dual-track strategy: pursuing a high-ceiling prospect like Mbaye alongside a more experienced winger to ensure immediate tactical continuity.
Player Profile: Ibrahim Mbaye
- Age: 18
- Primary Position: Right Wing
- International Status: Senegal (Debut: November 2025)
- Career Milestone: Youngest African player to score in a World Cup tournament (18 years, 143 days) during the 2026 edition.
As of this report, no formal offers have been submitted to PSG. Mbaye is reportedly receptive to a move to Anfield, though the transition remains contingent on the alignment of valuation and the club's evolving tactical requirements under Iraola.
